AUDITION info

The Audition Deadline is 23 April 11:59pm

This term is extra special… we’re putting on a musical production of Guys and Dolls! Unlike our usual terms, where we finish with a showcase, this is our one big musical term—and that means it’s time for auditions!

But don’t worry—you do not need to audition to take part. There is loads for everyone to do, and we’ve made sure there are plenty of fun, exciting moments to shine on stage for every single performer. However, if you’d like to be considered for a lead or featured role, then you’ll need to submit an audition. We have lots of fantastic solos available, and while we’ll always do our best to share the spotlight, priority will be given to those who audition—so even if you don’t want a lead role, we still really recommend giving it a go!

This is your chance to show us your personality, energy, and love for performing—and most importantly, to have fun!

Scroll down to find everything you need to prepare your audition. Break a leg, Superstars!

  • Get ready to shine, superstar!

We are SO excited you're auditioning for our fabulous production of Guys and Dolls. This is your time to sparkle, sing your heart out, and show us your amazing stage presence—all from the comfort of your own home!

    ---

💃 STEP 1: Pick Your Characters!

Choose a maximum of 2 characters you’d love to audition for. Use the audition material below to help you. Most characters require a song and script audition each.

Don’t worry—you’ll be considered for all roles no matter who you choose, but this helps us see your range, enthusiasm and preference!

    ---

📝 STEP 2: Fill Out the Audition Form & Pay the £10 Fee

Before you start recording, please: Complete the Audition Form (you’ll find this below)
Pay the £10 audition fee using the secure link provided below

Why the fee? This small fee helps cover the extra time and costs of the audition process and additional staff time. If cost is a barrier, just get in touch—we’re here to help. There is more information about costs in our FAQs below!

    —-

🎬 STEP 3: Use the Official Audition Material

All your audition scripts and songs are provided below (scroll down or see attached).

👉 Important:Only use the material we’ve given you.

Please don’t use YouTube versions, other scripts, or karaoke tracks.

    ---

🎤 STEP 4: Practice Makes Progress!

Most characters have 1 script and song for the audition. You can find the material below.

Spend time practising your script and song!

Say them out loud, sing them in front of a mirror, and most importantly—have fun with it!

You don’t have to be perfect or know all the lines. We want to see your personality and character come through!

    ---

🎥 STEP 5: Send Us Your Self-Tape via WhatsApp! 07449500530

When you’re happy with your recording, send it to us via WhatsApp.

Don’t forget to include your full name in the accompanying message so we can find your audition easily.

Example: “Max Taylor’s audition for Guys and Dolls. Auditioning for the part of x & y at Twickenham”

    ---

💰 STEP 6: Make Sure Your Term Fees Are Paid and up to date by 19th April

Your audition won’t be accepted if fees are paid late—so please make sure everything’s sorted by 19th April.

This helps us keep everything running smoothly and fairly for everyone!

    ---

🥁 STEP 7: Wait for the Big Reveal!

Parts will be announced before we return to class—so stay tuned!

Once you know your role, get ready:

🎶 Learn all your solos and lines by Week 3 of rehearsals.

You’ve got this! Break a leg!

  • Once you’ve chosen your audition character (or two!), and practised, it’s time to film!

    🎬 Film Your Audition

Here’s how to make it look fantastic:

Film in landscape (that means your phone or camera should be sideways)
✅ Use a plain background if you can—like a wall or curtain
✅ Make sure your head and shoulders are clearly visible
✅ Ask a grown-up, sibling, or friend to read the other lines off-camera so you can respond to them
✅ Remember to react and listen, not just say your lines!

🎤 Optional: Add a Little “Ident”

This just means saying who you are at the start of your video.
    🎙️ Example:

“Hi, my name is Amy and I’m auditioning for Miss Adelaide!”

It’s a lovely way to introduce yourself with a smile 😊

    📁 Separate Videos Please!

If you're auditioning for more than one character, please send a separate video for each one.
Also send your script and song in separate videos.
That helps us stay super organised and makes sure we see all your brilliant work!

👋 Make it clear who you are and who you’re auditing for in the accompanying message

Don’t forget to include your full name in the message so we can find your audition easily.

Example: “Max Taylor’s audition for Guys and Dolls. Auditioning for the part of x & y at Twickenham”

    💡 TOP TIPS for a Superstar Self-Tape:

🌟 Use good lighting—stand near a window or lamp so we can see your lovely face
🌟 Speak clearly and don’t rush
🌟 Be yourself and have fun—your personality is the best part!
🌟 Check the video before you send it—make sure you're happy with it!

🌟 Remember, the WestWay team is supporting you every step of the way! We can’t wait to see you shine

  • ❓All Your Audition Questions Answered! 🎭

We know auditions can bring up a lot of questions—so here are the answers to our most common ones. Remember, we’re here to help you shine!

    ---

💡 1. Who can audition for a lead role?

Anyone aged 10 and over is welcome to audition for a lead role!

Just keep in mind that Guys and Dolls includes some mature themes, and the roles can be quite complex—so our older students will be given priority for leads.

That said, there are plenty of amazing roles for everyone, including solos and featured parts, and we’d LOVE to see you audition, even if you’re going for a supporting role. 🌟

    ---

🎭 2. How do you decide who gets which role?

    Great question! We look at:

    - Who is most suitable for each role (voice, acting, character fit). Please audition for all genders!

    - Maturity and readiness

    - Dedication to learning material

    - Work ethic and attitude

    - Being on time with auditions and fees

AND… we always try to build a warm, supportive cast environment where everyone can thrive.

    ---

🎤 3. I don’t want a lead role, but I’d love to be featured. Should I still audition?

    Absolutely!

Let us know on your audition form, and choose a character that fits your voice and acting style.

We’ll be looking closely at all our auditionees when assigning solos and featured moments—so go for it!

    ---

🌟 4. I’m new to WestWay. Can I still audition?

    Yes please!

We’d love to welcome you. If you’ve done any performing before—on stage, in school, in clubs—pop that down on your audition form. And if you haven’t, don’t worry… this could be your exciting first step into the spotlight!

    ---

🤝 5. I have additional needs and might need support learning lines and songs. What should I do?

Thank you for letting us know. 💛

Please share anything helpful in the audition form, and a friendly member of our trained team will be in touch. We’re here to make sure every performer feels supported and celebrated.

    ---

📚 6. How many lines and songs will I need to learn?

All performers will need to learn their material by Week 3 of rehearsals.

    This includes:

    - Any solos

    - Any lines (spoken or sung)

    - Your part in the group numbers

Each character is different with some featured roles needing to learn a lot of material. This is one of the reasons why more mature performers may be considered for the larger roles—but don’t worry, we’ll guide you every step of the way!

    ---

👯 7. Will more than one person play the same role?

    Yes, possibly!

    We may:

    - Split cast some roles so more performers get a moment to shine

    - Share solos or lines among the ensemble for bigger characters

    - Have 2 full casts, so even more of our talented students get a chance to perform!

We love seeing everyone have their time in the spotlight ✨

    ---

💬 8. What happens if I don’t get the role I want? Will I be featured enough?

There is so much for everyone to take part in. Creating and performing a full musical in just 11 weeks is always a fun challenge—and our casts always rise to it!
Our team specifically chooses shows (like Guys and Dolls) with lots of characters, group numbers, solos, and scenes so that our WestWay Superstars get the chance to shine as much as possible.
Whether you’re a lead or part of our brilliant ensemble, you’ll be busy, creative, and part of something amazing. You absolutely will not be bored!

Please also remember that we put on 3 shows (2 Showcases and a musical) every year for our MT students. If you don’t get the role you want this time, there’s always next time, or our summer holiday musical! We always do our best to be as fair as possible.

    ——-

9 🌈 Can I audition for a character who’s a different gender or age to me?

    Yes, yes, yes! 💫
We believe in celebrating talent, imagination, and creativity—so you are welcome to audition for any character you connect with, no matter their gender or age.

What we care most about is:

    • How well you bring the character to life

    • Your understanding of their traits

    • Your energy, expression, and storytelling

So if a character speaks to you—go for it! Have fun with it and show us your best performance!

    —-

10 I can’t do the show, can I still take part?

Yes! Be a ‘Swing’. One of the most respected roles in theatre!

For those of you who can't make the show, we have something really special for you – you will take on the role of a Swing! In the West End, this is one of the most highly respected roles, where performers learn multiple ‘tracks’ (also known as roles) and learn ALL the material and step in at the last minute in the rehearsals when there are absences. It’s an amazing opportunity to develop incredible skills, boost your confidence, and truly experience what it’s like to be a theatre pro!

Your dedication and hard work will be celebrated with a special shoutout in our performance programme – because every single one of you is an essential part of this production.

    —-

11 There’s a lot to do for the audition. Do I have to audition?

    Nope! 😊
You don’t have to audition. If your superstar would prefer not to, they can simply let us know during rehearsals if they’d like to be considered for a solo.

We encourage auditions because it’s the fairest way to allocate roles and helps us understand each performer’s strengths.

Also, taking on a lead role is a big and exciting responsibility—it takes time, commitment, and dedication, so we need to know who’s ready for the challenge!

    —-

💰 12 Why is there an audition fee?

Great question! We always want to be open about how things work behind the scenes.

Putting on a musical is an amazing experience—but it also comes with lots of extra costs, like:

Performance rights and royalties (these are legal costs we pay to use the show)
Technical extras like extra microphones and technical requirements behind the scenes

Plus at WestWay we already have:
Smaller class sizes to give your superstar more individual attention
Top-quality teaching and support. Wonderful performance spaces

Auditions also take time for our team to prepare, review, and organise fairly, so we ask for a small audition fee to help cover that extra time and those production costs.

If finances are a concern, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re always happy to chat and do what we can to support our WestWay families. 💛

Got another question? Just ask us—we’re happy to help!
